Freshwater Theatre Company
has accepted the challenge from our state legislature.
They asked us to define marriage.
We’re giving it a shot.
Now playing at Nimbus Theatre in Minneapolis, Freshwater Theatre presents Better (or) Worse, a festival of new short plays that attempts to pin down the moving target of modern marriage, with a bit of historic and comedic perspective.
With plays from local and national playwrights Greg Abbott, Emily Arachtingi, Richard Ballon, Valerie Borey, Janet M. Bristow, Rachel Flynn, Ariel Leaf, Michael Long, Bria McNamara, Scot Moore, Jason Rainey, Jen Scott andRuth Virkus, Freshwater Theatre is taking on the question of marriage, promising no safe or concrete answers about this surprisingly complex topic.
The 13 pieces will be directed by local directors Emilia Allen, Chris Garza, Jamil Jude, Anya Kremenetsky, Scot Moore, Scott Pakudaitis, Nora Sachs, Cassandra Snow, Kyle Thomas andJohn Zeiler.
Featuring the talents of: Rachel Austin, Jim Bitney, Denise Baker, Josef Buchel, Alexis Clarksean, Jon Dahl, Rachel Flynn, Shannon Troy Jones, Kari Kjeldseth, Ariel Leaf, John Leaf, Peyton McCandless, Bria McNamara, Elizabeth Olsen, Briana Patnode, Bill Studer, Christine Sweet, Derek “Duck” Washington, Aly Westberg and Lacey Zeiler, with stage management byEmily Arachtingi and props by Sarah Salisbury.
All proceeds from the festival will be donated to Minnesotans United for All Families, to help assist in the fight against the upcoming constitutional amendment that would limit marriage in the state of Minnesota to only unions between one man and one woman.
We will also be hosting events with MN United on how to communicate with friends and family about gay marriage and why it should be legal.
